Algeria's Population Reaches 38.7 Million

Algiers - The National Statistics Office (ONS) said Algeria's population stood at 38.7 million as of Jan 1 this year, Algeria Press Agency (APS) reported.

Algeria recorded 963,000 living births, 168,000 deaths and 388,000 marriages last year, according to ONS.

The demographic situation in 2013 was mainly marked by a decline in the number of living births and deaths, a slight drop in child mortality and a significant rise in the number of marriages.

The ONS expects population to increase to 39.5 million by Jan 1, 2015.
