Algeria: Three candidates for prime minister

Lundi 28 Mai 2012

The FLN, the main political force in the new assembly, seems to be failing to claim the premiership, leaving brisk speculation circulating around the RND candidates or technocrats.
Algeria: Three candidates for prime minister
The eyes are on President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, to appoint the new prime minister, parliamentary sources in Algeria, reports the London daily Al Quds Al Arabi, giving  chances for the nomination of the next Prime Minister, from among three candidates:

• Cherif Rahmani, RND leader and former Environment Minister, he is popular, parliamentary sources reported, for these qualities of good manager he has occupied the the position of Wali several times, particularly in Algiers, and can count to his credit several publications on topics of municipal management. He graduated from the Ecole Nationale d'Administration in Algiers where he is now  a professor and holds a PhD in Regional Planning at the University of Poitiers (France). He was governor of the Grand Minister Algiers, Minister of Planning and Environment and Minister for Planning, Environment and Tourism

• Abdelmalek Sellal, former minister of water resources, a  technocrat who does not belong to any party. He was born in Constantine, he completed his graduate studies in Algeria, where he graduated from the ENA in Section diplomacy. Iil holds several positions of responsibility such as Wali of Boumerdes, Adrar, Sidi-Bel-Abbes, Oran and Laghouat. He also served as Ambassador of Algeria in Hungary, then return to Algeria, he was appointed Interior Minister of Local Government and Environment, Youth and Sports, Public Works, Transportation and, Minister of water Resources.

• Amar El Ghoul, former minister of public works, Islamist member of AAV, his appointment would be a great curiosity in the Algerian political landscape, given the extreme position adopted by his party in respect of election and beyond the plan in full, El Ghoul was marked by breaking with his position that his co-partisans did during the opening session of the NPC, when they waved placards inscribed in 'no to fraud 'before retiring from the plenary session. Ammar El Ghoul, questioned by journalists had said "statesman serve the people and I refuse to be involved with adolescence politics."

He was born in the wilaya of Ain Defla, he served as State Engineer in Civil Engineering in Rouiba. He continued his studies and obtained a master's degree in nuclear engineering. In 1989 he left for France where he graduated in 1991 a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering. In 1998, he graduated in Oran where he is doctorate in mechanical engineering. On the political front, he was elected in 1997 deputy to the NPC for the MSP. He soon became chairman of the parliamentary group. He was Minister of Public Works.

These same assumptions do not exclude the possibility of the renewal, by President Bouteflika, of Ahmed Ouyahia for the post of Prime Minister,in the name of stability and the concern for the continuation of the process  of 'reforms' initiated as early as 2008.
