African Development Bank supports Morocco's economic competitiveness with 114.5 million dollars

Casablanca - The African Development Bank (AfDB) extended on Tuesday to Morocco a loan and two donations, worth 114.5 million dollars, to finance a program to support the competitiveness of the Moroccan economy.

Initialed in Casablanca by AfDB's president, Donald Kaberuka and Moroccan economy and finance minister, Mohamed Bousaid, the agreement will finance the program that will benefit SME's, investors who have major projects and active persons in the informal sector.

In addition to improving the efficiency of public investment, the operation consists of supporting the implementation of reforms meant to lift constraints on private investments, mainly those related to the business legal framework, the informal sector integration, entrepreneurship promotion and easing red tape.

The AfDB also extended Morocco two donations, worth 1 million dollars each. The first donation will help the head of government's office establish a pilot economic watch unit while the second donation will help the department of treasury and external finances face the new global challenges.

AfDB's portfolio in Morocco consists of 33 ongoing operation, representing net commitments of around 21.3 billion dirhams, mainly in infrastructure (transports, energy, water and sanitation) and governance.
