Algeria and Morocco have agreed to organize a bi-annual meeting of their Foreign Ministers to assess bilateral relations, Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Eddine El Othmani said at a joint press conference with his Algerian counterpart Mourad Medelci said on Monday in Algiers,

"We proposed a meeting every six months at the level of Foreign Ministers to assess the relations both bilaterally and Maghreb.We believe that the overcoming of obstacles in the development of political and economic relations at all levels is the top priority." Saad Eddine El Othmani said to AFP.

"Our strategy is based on questions that are the subject of consensus between the two countries as to those responsible for differences,we will ask them seamlessly," said El Othmani,in response to a question about the reopening of the border between the two countries, closed since 1994.

"The Algerian government considers that the development of relations with Morocco is a priority. Algeria prefers include the issue of reopening the border in a global framework. "

Mourad Medelci said the joint commission for cooperation between Algeria and Morocco should take in 2012, its first meeting since 1994.

The Algerian Minister has also confirmed holding "the 17 or February 18" in Rabat a ministerial meeting of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU).

Saad Eddine El Othmani was received on Tuesday, the second day of his visit, by the President of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika at the Djenane El-Mufti residence in Algiers in the presence of his Algerian counterpart Mourad Medelci. Previously, El Othmani was received by the Minister of State, Personal Representative of the President and leader of the National Liberation Front (FLN ruling party), Abdelaziz Belkhadem.
