Tangiers - Foreign ministers of the Western Mediterranean Forum, commonly referred to as 5+5 Dialogue, hailed the role played by the Moroccan chairmanship of the Al Quds committee in preserving the identity and the historical and plural-religious aspect of the holy city, expressing their deep concern over the mounting tension in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
In the Tangiers Declaration, issued on Wednesday following the 12th meeting of the 5+5 Dialogue co-chaired by foreign minister Salaheddine Mezouar and his Portuguese peer Rui Machete, the ministers underlined the need for Israel to backtrack from altering the identity and the historical and plural-religious aspect of Al Quds, lauding the role of the Moroccan chairmanship of the Al Quds committee in this regard.

They also deplored the absence of progress in the international community's treatment of the Palestinian issue, calling for intensifying efforts to reach a just, comprehensive and lasting political solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on the two-state solution pursuant to the relevant UNSC resolutions, the principles of Madrid Conference on Peace, the road map, agreements concluded between the parties and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The foreign affairs ministers recalled that the Israeli colonization policy of the occupied Palestinian territories is illegal in conformity with international law and is a major obstacle to peace and the viability of a two-state solution.
